In addition to the photo competition (Part 1), we will also be working with independent professional/student photographers and local community groups across South Australia to develop a portfolio of images, to add to the online image gallery, alongside the chosen competition submissions.
Please Note: While the Wellness Gallery project itself concludes 6 June 2022, Catalyst Foundation would like to continue building the resource gallery and increasing the diversity of images by continuing to work with community groups around South Australia. Please continue to send expressions of interest to [email protected] if you would like to be involved in a free photoshoot.
These photos will form the bulk of the new images within the free gallery and aim to further challenge the concept of ageism in media. They will provide another resource of alternative, authentic positive ageing imagery that more accurately depicts ageing Australians’ diverse narratives. We welcome photos of all ageing South Australians and would like to accurately represent the diversity of Australia's ageing population, including those living with a disability, people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds, LGBTIQA+ communities, Aboriginal Communities and people living in regional and rural areas.
The structured photoshoots aim to showcase existing community groups across South Australia and be realistic photos of what they are already doing to demonstrate positive ageing (photographs must be of people over 50 years old). The photos will aim to be mostly candid, in order to gain the most realistic imagery of the Australian community. Wellness Gallery project officers will attend the community group with the volunteer photographer, provide information about Wellness Gallery and ageing in media to the community group and be there to support both the organisation and the photographer.
We are also interested in connecting with individuals over 50 years old, who may like to participate in individual photoshoots, but are not connected with any particular community group.
Photographers are welcome to attend local community groups independently or create their own positive ageing portraiture shoots (in addition to Wellness Gallery-supported photoshoots) to submit to the Wellness Gallery, however model release forms for use as stock images must be gathered independently by the photographer in this case.
Images within the Wellness Gallery resource are deidentified of any local branding and signage to ensure privacy of models. You will receive a copy of the professional photos taken with your community group to use and share as you like.
This is not a paid opportunity, but such a fantastic project! It would be great to connect with photographers in non-metropolitan Adelaide or regional SA towns as we have many interested community groups already outside of metro Adelaide!
